Its been a long time since the last update so there is a lot to catch up on.

Andrew Colman Quartet
I Remember You (33 Jazz Records)

Albumcover

My new album has arrived. Recorded last year it features the amazing talents of Jamil Sheriff, John Perry and Jon Thorne and includes seven of my favourite tunes that we have performed over the years.
You will be able to find it at www.33jazz.com and later in the year on iTunes and all the other major download music sites. Andrew Colman Quartet - I Remember You
(Album review taken from cd liner notes)

After I had finished performing a set at the Scarborough Jazz Festival a couple of years ago, a young man came up to me in the foyer of the theatre and introduced himself, his name was Andrew Colman. He said that he liked a composition of mine called 'What's The Secret' having heard it on a radio broadcast that I did a few years ago, adding that he occasionally performs it with his quartet. I felt flattered as it was a tune that I had actually forgotten about. Hearing his version on this album is a real treat for me, and itís interesting to hear another flugelhorn players approach to it. Everybodyís playing certainly does the piece justice.

In fact everybodyís playing on the entire album is a testament to good jazz. The rhythm section sounds great, both individually and as a unit, complimenting Andrewís lyrical style perfectly (I wouldnít mind nicking them myself). I particularly like the unusual version of 'You've Changed' in 6/8 time, and the flugelhorn and drums duet on the introduction to 'Just Friends'. The Wayne Shorter composition 'Beautiful Black Eyes' works well and displays Andrew's rich sound and taste profoundly.

I look forward to hearing the group live.

There are a few exciting new releases out there that I'm involved in - The Jamil Sheriff Octet second album 'Backchat' (33Records/Arts Council) and the long awaited Colman Brothers second single release, 'She Who Dares' (WahWah45s)
7" vinyl/Download.
Both getting lots of airplay and great reviews!

Jamil Sheriff Octet - Backchat (Arts Council/33 Records)
A name such as Jamil sheriffs' almost demands to belong to the 1970s American loft scene, yet Sheriff is in fact from Bolton, 30 years old and a graduate of Leeds College of Music. What's more, he's an accomplished player displaying dashes of McCoy Tyner brawn and even more impressively a top-notch composer and arranger. Big brassy arrangements dominate Backchat with consistently mature and toe-tapping numbers such as 'Patriotic Tune', an authentic hard swinger with fire breathing solo work from altoist Joel Purnell. As a writer, the pianist draws inspiration from the likes of Don Grolnick, Tom Harrell, Chick Corea and above all Dave Douglas (the moody 'Straight Talk' exemplifying this). Yet much of the album simmers with a kind of late 1960s modal bop on which youíd expect to hear Billy Harper or Charles Tolliver. All of Sheriffs frontline soloists acquit themselves with admirable, expansive work, not least Flugelhornist Andrew Colman on the sassy opener 'The Happy Ending'. Bassist Zoltan Dekeny meanwhile, is a real find; nimble, big toned and hard swinging. As the remaining tracks prove, Sheriffs album is very worth a listen, pointing to what must be a highly entertaining band live.

Colman Brothers - She Who Dares (Wah Wah 45s)
Here's a tune that would make the Clarke/Boland Big Band proud - a sweet jazzy groover that sounds just like something off their classic Latin Kaleidoscope album for MPS! The main side is all jazzy and big band - horn flourishes gliding beautifully over snapping rhythms that get a bit more beat-heavy on the lounge mix.

Press Release - 'She Who Dares' (WahWah45s) - Released on 26th November 07 - is the exciting new track from the Colman Brothers. The follow up to their massive dance floor hit El Nino continues with the Latin/jazz theme and comes in Big Band and Lounge versions.
It perfectly captures the hip Herbolzheimer, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis band sounds of the 60s and 70s and sparkles with outstanding solos from Andrew on Flugelhorn and special guest Ruth Hammond on Rhodes.

'Two more cheeky barnstormers from the Colman Brothers guaranteed to give you the horn!' Perry Hemus / Woodland Records

Meanwhile, El Nino continues its popularity with yet another appearance on a compilation!

She Who Dares and El Nino will be available on 7'' vinyl and can be downloaded at www.kudosrecords.co.uk iTunes and more
